“Afel Bocoum is from Niafunke, the same village where the legendary Ali Farka Toure lived. At the age of thirteen, Afel became a member of Ali Farka’s group ASCO. This was a fantastic opportunity for Afel who learned a lot and developed his own style. Afel has recorded three albums of his own and can also be heard on many other artists’ albums. This man gave me a nice birthday-greeting, which can be heard in the song Badake that I recorded with Afel in Belgium.”
